Description
The TPS92511 is an easy to use 65V constantcurrent buck converter for driving a single LED stringwith current up to 0.5A and efficiency up to 95%.Only 5 external components are required for basicoperation and single layer PCB layout is feasiblebecause of the integration of a N-MOSFET noextemnal current sensing resistor, no externalcompensation and the proper terminal assignment.Ahigh-value external resistor programs the LED currentso that fine tuning of the LED current can beachieved.Another high-value exteral resistorprograms a constant switching frequency from 50kHzto 500kHz. EMl design becomes easier as a result ofconstant switching frequency.
The TPS92511provides a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to65V. By adding simple external circuits, the devicecan handle applications with even higher inputvoltages.
The TPS92511 employs a proprietary control schemeto regulate the LED current without the need ofsensing the LED current directly. lt applies a floatingbuck topology with a low-side N-channel powerMOSFET. which does not need boot-strappingcapacitor. For multiple channel systems, the floatingbuck topology together with the proprietary controlscheme allows a common-anode connection of theLED strings without an external current sensingnetwork. This significantly reduces the number ofwiring and as well as overall manufacturing cost.
The TPS92511 has very fast PWM dimming responsetime. For example, if the switching frequency is 500kHz the minimum DlM pulse width is 6us and thedimming frequency is 150Hz, a contrast ratio of morethan 1000:1 can be achieved.
The TPS92511 is available in the Power EnhancedSOlC-8 exposed thermal pad package.
